For some it’s the band, for others it’s the guest list but for plenty of Australian’s it’s
the photography that makes a wedding and they want it to be picture perfect!

Sebastian Thaw, a well know New York celebrity portrait and wedding
photographer has recently arrived in Sydney and started his own wedding
photography business, to the delight of brides throughout the country. The
studio, Sebastian T Photography launches this week.
Having attended the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, majoring in photography,
Sebastian embarked on a journey to New York where he worked for 15 years as
an assistant for notable photographers, Richard Avedon, Arthur Elgort and Albert
Watson, learning technical, lighting and creative skills and all aspects of
photography. After some time Sebastian decided to venture out on his own,
undertaking fashion and portrait assignments.
A photographer for many publications, such as Vanity Fair, New York Magazine,
TV Guide and Harpers Bazaar, Sebastian has worked with countless celebrities
including Eva Mendes, Mia Farrow, Gwyneth Paltrow, Halle Berry, Cindy
Crawford, Christy Turlington, Rhys Witherspoon, Renee Zelwegger and Beyonce.
Sebastian turned to wedding photography eight years ago, after photographing
a friend’s wedding and enjoying it immensely. He liked how weddings
incorporated so many genres of photography, fashion, lifestyle, portraiture, food,
still life and architecture and offer a chance to capture meaningful, intimate
moments that will be cherished forever.
He says “My work is very much in the lifestyle genre but mixed with a strong
fashion influence, its not reportage, I want my couple to look great & feel great
and the day look and feel incredible, I’m not just out to document the wedding,
I want it to look amazing!
Sebastian’s wedding photographs artfully combine modern portraiture and
editorial styles. His approach is relaxed and personal and his informal
photographic style captures all kinds of decisive moments-the formal tableaus,
bursts of emotion, and other chance events that make each wedding unique.
